Disabling Norton AntiVirus 2007 w/o uninstalling.?

My norton needs to be renewed so i installed avast and at the same time i have norton also running. Others say to use only one antivirus and most people recommend avast compare with norton. How do I disable Norton without uninstalling it? I might use it in the future thats why i dont want it uninstall, i just want it not running on my system coz its consuming lots of processing/memories on my computer.

Right Click on the Icon in the system tray and select "Disable Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect."

Right click norton icon on the tray and click disable/turn off.
You can also go into the system configuration utility and disable it

Start%26gt;Run%26gt;type in MSCONFIG%26gt;Startup tab - uncheck any reference to Norton
Simple way.

1.Check what your Startup is.

Go Start-%26gt;All Programs-%26gt;Startup.

Remove any link to Norton .

2. Check your registry.

Go Start-%26gt;Run...-%26gt;type: regedit-%26gt;OK

Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-%26gt;SOFTWARE-%26gt;

Microsoft-%26gt;Windows-%26gt;CurrentVersion.

Choose Run folder and click, you'll see what is on startup of your windows. Delete(right click) all link to Norton files like vptray and...
Open NAV 2007 and select the Norton Antivirus Tab. Then click on the arrow beside Settings and click on Auto-Protect. There you can temporarily disable it along with other options.
