Is Norton Internet Security 2008 the best software to download?

I had Norton Internet Security 2007 and it was one of the best downloads that I ever had for my laptop. Whenever I talk to people about Norton, they always complain about how it slows your computer down. My argument is that I've never received a virus while having it. So is downloading Norton Internet Security 2008 a good idea? Or is there a faster and more effective download?

all that means is that your Norton antivirus didn't notice the virus, so you might have viruses that you don't know about, I had Norton works 2005 ( includes antivirus, firewall, and reg cleaner ), and I thought I was virus free till my contract expired and I uninstalled it and downloaded AVG antivirus and it found lots of viruses and Trojans that Norton missed,also the Norton's 2005 works really did slow down my computer and I noticed a real speed up in my computer after I uninstalled it, maybe the 2007 version is better, but I have lost all faith in Norton's, by the Way AVG is completly free
